Trovu Mileage ("Trovu", "we", "us") is a mileage tracking app for business drives and tax records. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. It applies to the Trovu Mileage mobile app and to trovu.app.
Information we collect
Location data
With your permission, Trovu collects precise location data from your device, including while the app is closed or not in use. This is what makes automatic trip detection work: a drive continues after you put your phone away, so location must be collected in the background or mileage would stop recording mid-trip.
Location is collected only between the start and end of a trip. From it we derive the route, distance, start and end addresses, and timestamps, and store these as trip records in your account. While a trip is recording, an ongoing notification shows that tracking is active.
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, or pause automatic tracking inside the app. Trip recording stops; your existing records remain.
Account information
Your email address, name, and optionally a phone number, plus your locale and time zone. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and name from that provider. We store credentials as password hashes or passkeys, never as readable passwords.
Content you create
Vehicles, trips and their classification and purpose, expenses, receipt images you attach, and the reports and exports you generate.
Subscription information
Whether your subscription is active, which plan, and the identifiers needed to validate it. We never receive or store your payment card details. Purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Technical and diagnostic data
Device push notification tokens, and crash and error diagnostics used to fix defects.
How we use it
To detect and record trips, calculate mileage at the IRS standard rate in effect on the day you drove, generate the reports and exports you request, sync your data across your devices, send notifications you have enabled, manage your subscription, and diagnose problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your location data for advertising, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers needed to operate the app:
- Apple and Google — process subscription payments and deliver push notifications.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status and entitlements.
- Google Maps — renders maps and resolves coordinates to addresses.
- Sentry — receives crash and error diagnostics.
- Expo and Novu — deliver push notifications to your device.
We may also disclose information where required by law.
Where your data lives
Your trips, vehicles, expenses, receipts, and reports are stored on our servers in the United States and encrypted in transit. Trip data is also cached on your device so the app works without a connection.
Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. Generated export files and receipt PDFs have retention controls you can adjust in the app under Privacy and data. When you delete your account, your personal data and trip history are deleted from our systems.
Your rights and controls
- Pause automatic tracking, or revoke location permission entirely.
- Edit, reclassify, or delete individual trips.
- Export all of your mileage and expense data as CSV, PDF, or XLSX.
- Delete your account and all associated data from within the app.
- Request a copy of your data, or its correction or deletion, by emailing us.
Children
Trovu Mileage is intended for adults tracking business mileage. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update this page and revise the date above.
