Getting started

Open Trovu Reader and follow the welcome tour. In Library, use + to import supported files from Files. Replay Welcome to Trovu from Settings at any time. No Trovu login is needed for local reading.

Use reading settings to change typography, margins, spacing, page colors, scrolling or page navigation. On sufficiently wide displays, the two-page button opens a spread.

Supported files

EPUB, PDF, DRM-free MOBI/AZW/AZW3/PRC/PDB, FB2/FBZ, CBZ/CBR/CBT, DOCX, ODT, TXT, Markdown, HTML, and RTF.

Complex documents and Office files may not convert faithfully. DRM-protected books, restricted library loans, KFX, and DjVu/DJV are not supported. Read Aloud synthesizes text; it is not a recorded-audiobook player.

Save a webpage for later

In Safari or another browser, open Share and choose Save to Read Later. If hidden, use View More or Edit Actions. Open Trovu to finish queued downloads.

Failed downloads remain available for Retry or Remove. Sharing a PDF to Trovu imports the file instead of creating a web article. Some pages cannot be extracted; use Open original in browser when needed.

Read Aloud

Choose a system voice or download optional Kokoro voices in Settings. Kokoro requires a connection and storage for the initial download, then generates speech on the device.

Use play/pause, speed, configurable backward and forward skips, and the sleep timer. Drag or minimize the controls. Playback can continue in the background and from lock-screen controls.

Notes, highlights, and summaries

Select readable text to highlight, underline, or add a note. Notes gathers annotations and notebooks. Export Markdown, JSON, or CSV; annotated PDF export preserves supported PDF markup.

Completed Apple Intelligence summaries autosave as notes tagged summary. Find them in Notes → Filter → Summaries. Summaries require supported hardware, Apple Intelligence, and its downloaded model, and may contain mistakes.

PDF drawing and export

Enter markup mode to draw with Apple Pencil or touch. Enable Draw with Finger when desired. Exit drawing mode before selecting PDF text. Scanned pages need embedded text or OCR for text actions.

Sharing to Apple Notes sends a text copy through the system share sheet. It is not automatic or two-way synchronization.

Scan pages

Choose Library → + → Scan Pages. Allow camera access, capture and arrange pages, choose a title, and optionally enable Make text searchable before saving. OCR runs locally; unrecognized pages remain in the PDF.

Camera scanning needs a supported physical iPhone or iPad and is unavailable in simulators. Import a PDF from Files on unsupported devices.

RSS, Atom, and OPML

Subscribe to RSS or Atom feeds, or import an actual OPML file from Files. Manage subscriptions in the main content area; select several feeds to unsubscribe together, or swipe/use a feed menu to edit or remove one.

Removing a feed keeps explicitly saved articles, highlights, and notes, but removes its feed cache. Folder menus rename or remove groupings; removing a folder moves subscriptions to the ungrouped list.

Collections, tags, and catalogs

Collections can contain books and Read Later articles. Use the sidebar to browse collections or tags. Open Discover → OPDS & Calibre to add a compatible catalog.

Catalog credentials require HTTPS and stay in Keychain. Reading positions do not sync back to Calibre, OPDS, or KOReader.

iCloud and devices

Use the same Apple account with iCloud Drive enabled. Supported library files and records plus RSS subscription names and folders sync privately when available.

RSS caches/read states, OPDS definitions, Goodreads import history, and some preferences stay local. On compatible Apple silicon Macs, Trovu Reader runs as the iPad app; there is no Intel or separate native Mac version.

Purchases

Trovu Reader launches as a $9.99 paid-upfront app in the U.S. with no free trial, subscription, or in-app Pro unlock. Regional prices appear in the App Store. Apple handles purchases, eligibility, and refund requests.

What to include with a report

Email your device model, OS version, app version/build, file format, and reproducible steps. A screenshot or small nonprivate sample can help.

Do not send passwords, Apple account details, private catalog credentials, or an entire private library. For sync issues, confirm the same Apple account, iCloud Drive, network access, and current app version.
