Your reading library
Imported books, saved articles, notes, highlights, reading positions, collections, tags, and reading activity are stored on your device. When iCloud is available, supported library data and book files can also be stored in your private Apple iCloud account and synchronized to your other Trovu devices. Trovu does not require a separate developer-managed account.
RSS subscription addresses, feed names, folders, and unsubscribe history can sync through your private iCloud store. RSS article caches and read states, OPDS catalog definitions, Goodreads CSV history, and some preferences remain on the device. The Reader share extension and widget exchange app-owned local data through an Apple App Group.
Scanning paper pages
Trovu requests camera access only when you choose to scan paper pages on a supported device. Captured images use temporary app storage, and optional optical character recognition runs on the device. Saving creates a PDF in your library, subject to the same private iCloud syncing as other library files. Trovu does not upload scans to an OCR service or save them to your Photos library.
Speech and summaries
Read Aloud uses Apple system speech or an optional downloaded Kokoro model. Kokoro narration is generated on your device; Trovu does not deliberately send narration text to Hugging Face or a developer-run speech server. Supported Apple Intelligence summaries use Apple’s on-device language model with no cloud-model fallback in Trovu. Saved summaries are regular notes and follow the same local/private iCloud storage as other notes.
Websites, feeds, catalogs, and discovery
When you save a web article, refresh a feed, browse a catalog, or download a book, your device contacts the source you select. Those services receive the requested address or search terms and normal network information such as your IP address. Websites and embedded resources may execute scripts or make additional requests while Trovu prepares an article. A nonpersistent web session does not prevent a website from receiving or logging requests.
Optional discovery searches and cover requests contact Open Library and Internet Archive. Optional voice downloads contact Hugging Face and its delivery services. Links to other websites open the selected provider. Each service operates under its own privacy policy.
User-selected HTTP-only feeds and catalogs are allowed, but HTTP is not encrypted. Catalog sign-in requires HTTPS. Catalog credentials are stored in the device Keychain and removed when you remove that catalog.
Sharing you choose
You can export notes through the system share sheet, including to Apple Notes, or drag selected text to another app. The receiving app gets the text or file you choose. These are user-initiated copies, not automatic two-way synchronization, and the destination controls its own storage and syncing.
Advertising, tracking, and diagnostics
Trovu Reader contains no app-owned advertising or analytics service and does not implement cross-app advertising tracking. Reading statistics remain part of your library rather than an app analytics account. Local diagnostic information can be generated for troubleshooting. If you contact support and choose to share diagnostics or a document, the information you send becomes available to the publisher. Avoid sending private books or notes unless necessary and you are comfortable sharing them.
Apple may separately process App Store purchases, iCloud data, or diagnostics under your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy policies.
Your choices and deletion
You can remove books, notes, highlights, collections, tags, subscriptions, and catalogs using the app. Synced deletions propagate through iCloud when available. You can remove the optional Kokoro model in Settings and control iCloud through your Apple account and device settings.
Deleting the app may leave data in iCloud or Keychain. Manage iCloud storage through Apple’s settings, and remove saved catalogs in Trovu before uninstalling if you want their credentials removed. Provider request logs and copies exported elsewhere are governed by those providers and destinations.
